The section of this state that gets the most tourism every year is South East Alaska. This is mainly due to the influx of the cruise industry in the state. Port cities like Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan have become major ports for almost every cruise company.
These cities have seen upwards of 16,000 tourists a day . You could say that some days during the summer months, cities in South East Alaska get more visitors in one day than the total population in the city. This should show you how many people want to see this amazing part of the world. Every port city in South East Alaska has a character all its own, and each one of them have breathtaking sights around every corner.
If you plan to see this part of Alaska during your vacation you have three options as for transpiration to see these places. Cruise Ships, Alaska Marine Highway (ferry System) or flights from place to place.
Most locations in this part of the state are not accessible by roads and even the few that are it would take you longer to drive to them than just taking a boat. The reason for this is because these ports are ether all located on islands or surrounded by ice-fields. But it is due to these natural systems that keeps this area of Alaska so breathtaking. South East Alaska is located in the heart of the Tujunga National Forest.
This is the second largest rain forest in the world, which keeps this section of the state full of Sitka Spruce trees, and Alder trees. The area of forest is very green and lush, but it is also very damp and rainy. So if you do make plans on seeing South East Alaska take lots of pictures and do not forget your rain coats, rubber boots, and umbrella! But nonetheless, have a wonderful time in South East Alaska.
